When President George W. Bush was handed a stunning defeat in 2006, losing both houses of the Congress to the Democrats, he told the voters, "I heard your message, and I’m going to listen to you."
Then... he increased our presence in Iraq, which was the reason he LOST both houses of Congress.
President Obama needs to take a lesson from President Bush in this instance. First, he needs to unload his advisers. Whoever is telling him to keep up the pressure for "bipartisanship" should be parking cars in the White House garage.
Then, he needs to stop acting in 2010 like it’s 2012. We’re going to have a rough mid-term this year. It’s time to just accept that, and legislate like there’s no tomorrow — cuz there may not be.
He needs to cast aside all pretenses of "bipartisanship" because the GOP is not INTERESTED in "bipartisanship." The GOP is interested in what’s good for the GOP. Obama needs to use his office to focus on what’s good for AMERICA, and NOT the fat cat Wall Street bankers that Scott Brown — the former nude model, racist, mysogynist homophobe who won Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat yesterday — wants to work for.
When Republicans had 50 votes in the Senate, they were able to get shit done. We have 59 votes... well, 58 when you shitcan Liebermann (since you don’t need him as #60 anymore)... well, 53 when you get rid of Baucus and Lincoln and Landrieu and Conrad and Nelson and the OTHER cowardly Blue Dogs who are more concerned with kow-towing to the Insurance Industry than they are in doing what’s RIGHT...
It’s time for LEADERSHIP! Not phony "bipartisanship."
We’re gonna see what President Obama is made of. And I hope we’re not disappointed again.
